“I want my pieces to make a statement.
A work of art in a chair.”

I create beautifully upholstered mid-century chairs in collaboration with artists and textile designers to produce unique designs and limited edition pieces. Each chair I produce is a one-off, a bespoke piece of art for your home. And each piece has a story and a depth of creative endeavour that brings it into being.

The story of a chair

Playing with form, colour, pattern and texture I work alongside designers to develop a brief for a chair, or a collection of chairs. We discuss ideas, consider the shapes that would work with the fabric we want to produce, and devise a design that is inspired by my overall aesthetic for the collection. My forthcoming collection will be unified by the theme of embellished fabrics - folding and pleating to form three dimensional fabrics which further enhance the level of craftmanship, inspired by origami, and also exploring embroidery in various forms.

Once we have a design I source the perfect chair to showcase the fabric. I am drawn to the clean lines and classic curves of mid-century furniture, and use chairs that will work in harmony with the fabric I produce. When I have found the right chair the fabric is made, either by trusted digital printers or hand-made by skilled weavers and talented screen-printers. The chair is restored, and painstakingly upholstered by myself or a selected master upholsterer here in East Sussex.

This means I am able to oversee the whole process, from the creative spark of an idea to the final production of every beautiful, exclusive chair. Comfort is also crucial, as whilst my chairs are designer pieces they must also fit into a home and function as a piece of furniture. Beauty, art and utility combined in every chair.

I love sending my chairs out into the world to start new chapters in their stories, bringing vibrant colour, bold style and a lot of joy into their new homes.

My story

From a career working for Habitat sourcing and developing product ranges in all forms - from lighting to ceramics, furniture to textiles - I developed a lasting love of chair design and unusual fabrics. When I moved to Lewes, East Sussex with my growing young family I decided to follow this passion and trained as an upholsterer. Whilst I relish the chance to get stuck-in to reworking a chair, hand-tieing springs or stitching piping, and bringing out its own inherent beauty, I wanted to do more. I wanted to create my own curated collections of tailor-made, luxury chairs that would make a statement and turn a humble chair into a work of art.

I have worked on commissions for Charleston, Clark and Kent Interior Design; Forest Row and Towner Art Gallery. Collaborations with designers and artists have included Holly Berry, N & N Wares, Rebecca Hoyes, HelloMarine, Lou Taylor and Rosie Moss.

My work has been exhibited at Design Junction, as part of the London Design Festival 2016 and west elm's flagship London store.

My chairs are available to buy here, and you can read more about the stories behind my collaborations and work process here.
